The Start; Tues 27th September 2011

These medical history updates are for close nursing friends and family who would like to know the medical ins and outs. Summaries will be posted for anyone else who would feel squeamish to know medical details. :) Thank You

Tuesday 27th Sept

Feeling unwell for three weeks. The Doctor put Jen on antibiotics for her chest infection.
Jen mentioned to Doctor about some recent vaginal bleeding.
Doc examined her and obtained a tissue sample, which was sent to Lab.

Thursday 29th Sept

Received phone call from surgery to make urgent appointment with Doc, and to bring someone with her.
Lindsay's 63rd Birthday.

Friday 30th Sept

11.20 am appointment. News was bad. Tissue sample showed 'squamous cell carcinoma'.
GP very worried about breathing; suspected pneumonia. Booked Jen in for out-patient at North Shore Hospital. Went home, packed up a few things, hoping not to stay the night. Quick Admission.
Preliminary examination by registrar. Sent for chest X-ray. Positive result for pneumonia, but Jen could tell something else was happening but the Doctors did not say.
IV line started, antibiotics.
Jen had been nauseous for couple of weeks, they IV drugs for that. Jen was very weak, coughing alot and had to be admitted to Ward 6 and put on oxygen.

Saturday 1st October & Sunday 2nd Oct

Jen is very short of breath, coughing and nauseous.

Monday 3rd October

Given CT Scan.
Found it hard to take iodine mixture because of nausea. Had full chest, abdomen and pelvic scan, expecting them to find just pneumonia. Results came back very quickly.
Blown away to find out have extensive lung cancer.
Abdomen and organs in the area were clear. Pelvic area couldnt see because of hazy scan.
Entered Shock from news, feeling weak and sick. Coughing and breathlessness, on oxygen 24/7.

Tuesday 4th October

CT Scan #2 - for head.
Results Clear.
which was a relief. Told by Doctors that Lung cancer was secondary area and primary area was a bit of a mystery.
Told it was Terminal.
